MORE USEFUL THAN THE STUNT
I watched the Tesla demo Thursday night. The next morning I posted the Paul Graham line it brought to mind, from his 2010 essay Organic Startup Ideas: "Don't be discouraged if what you produce initially is something other people dismiss as a toy. In fact, that's a good sign."
The essay argues the best startup ideas grow out of the founder's own life. It lists the first microcomputers, planes and cars as things dismissed as toys.
By afternoon the debate had moved to whether a Tesla needs to fly. I posted that I was more interested in whether fans and thrusters could help a self-driving car go exactly where it intends: more grip in a turn, an extra correction when tires slip.
Fox/Slightly was weighing posting the new Roadster video to Facebook. "Pls share!" I replied. He said he might not want the heat - people had texted and blocked him over an Elon comment before. "Dm me! Haha. What is this vid??" I answered, and added "Hope you're well btw!"
